Fervent Prayer

Prayer is essentially talking to God and His way of talking to us. It is through prayer that we build our relationship with Him. Fervent means to have or display a passionate intensity or enthusiasm for something. When used in prayer, it means praying with much fire and spirit as way of seeing our prayers answered. In his homily last Sunday, June 28, Fr. Bob Buenconsejo called us to pray with emotional intensity. A kind of prayer that is hot, burning, glowing, aggressive, strong, forceful, targeted, loud, powerful, and forcible. Prayers that sound desperate as fervent prayers are often effective prayers because they are real and heartfelt and they mean something.

As I meditate upon this teaching, I recalled how vehemently I prayed last week to be invisible to the eyes of traffic enforcers manning the road, trying my best to make it home to my kids before 3:00 pm without being apprehended. If getting caught in the heavy Katipunan to Greenhills traffic at 2:45 pm was not absurd enough, passing by more than a dozen traffic enforcers while scrambling to get home safely was no less than preposterous. But much to my surprise, after my persistent declaration in Jesus' mighty name with eyes almost in tears, I managed to park the car anxiously inside our compound at 4:30 pm unscathed and unnoticed even by the two officers supervising the gridlock right outside the main gate. What is even more amazing is that this effectual prayer is not a one-time occurrence. I have used my authority in the name of Jesus over almost anything many times and have proven to myself the truth of the word of God. And I am fully convinced that the word of God works for everyone who truly believes.

Fr. Bob called us to pray and communicate with God at all times, without hesitation. But unlike my prayer for invisibility, Fr. Bob wanted us to trust and wait for our prayers to get answered in a timely fashion. Fervent prayers are prayers that endure unto the end and not give up until the desired result is produced. It is a prayer of faith because faith never gives up and always produces that which is being believed to come to pass. So keep the faith, pray with passion and complete sincerity and trust that it shall be given unto you in God's perfect time.
